Fresh cocktail

Enjoying a lovely summer’s eve with my latest cocktail creation, Fresh. Take a sip and you’ll know why I gave it that name, though I have to admit, using basil within moments of picking it from the garden definitely gives this mixed drink an edge.

  • 2 oz vodka (or more to suit your taste)
  • 1 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice
  • 1 or 2 fresh basil leaves, plus a small sprig for garnish
  • 1 oz pomegranate arils (you can buy fresh packs in many stores)
  • splash of simple syrup

  1. in a mixing tin, muddle the basil leaves, arils, simple syrup and lime juice
  2. add the vodka and stir
  3. strain into a rocks glass
  4. fill with ice and the basil sprig; add a few arils on top if you like
  5. breath deeply of the aroma before taking your first sip
