Pistachio Sour

Pistachio Sour

OK, it may not be easy to make a Pistachio Sour for the simple reason that it’s hard to find the liqueur. You could try making your own pistachio-infused bourbon liqueur with Wonderful Pistachios (directions below) or, if you’re lucky enough to travel to Italy, bring home a bottle of Dumante Pistachio liqueur.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Dumante
  • 1 oz sweet & sour (I prefer homemade lemon/lime sour)
  • Maraschino cherry for garnish
  • For pistachio-infused bourbon:
  • 1 cup bourbon
  • 1/2 cup Wonderful pistachios

Instruction

  1. To make pistachio-infused bourbon:
  2. Use a jar with a tight-fitting lid
  3. Add the bourbon and pistachios and shake
  4. Refrigerate for two weeks but shake occasionally
  5. After two weeks discard the pistachios by straining through a sieve, then again through cheesecloth
  6. Add 2 oz simple syrup and shake (you can buy syrup or easily make your own). Remember to taste-test and this point. You might want to add a little more syrup
  7. Keep the liquor refrigerated
  8. To make the cocktail:
  9. Pour the Dumante or homemade liqueur with the sour mix into an ice-filled rocks glass
  10. Stir or shake and garnish with a cherry
  11. Hint: Instead of a maraschino, you might try a bourbon-marinated fresh cherry
