Algonquin

Named for the Algonquin Hotel, New York City, which achieved notoriety as a meeting place in the 1920s for a group of friends known as the Algonquin Round Table or Vicious Circle. Amongst the group were such renowned people as Robert Benchley, Edna Ferber, Harpo Marx and Dorothy Parker.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz rye whiskey
  • 1 oz dry vermouth
  • 1 oz pineapple juice
  • Brandied cherry

Instructions

  1. Shake the rye, vermouth and juice vigorously over ice
  2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
  3. Drop a brandy-soaked cherry in the drink
